BREAKING NEWS: Derry City captain Barry Molloy has officially announced he will leave The Brandywell and sign for Irish League side Crusaders in January.
Molloy has spent TEN glorious seasons at Derry City but contract negotiations between Molloy and Derry representatives ended in a stalemate which prompted Molloy to head towards the exit door.
Molloy was the club captain for the past number of seasons and has been one of Derry’s greatest servants.
His last game for the club came in their FAI Cup Final defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic in November.
Molloy admitted he didn’t think he’d leave The Brandywell, but said he couldn’t turn down the offer from Crusaders, especially after failing to land the terms he wanted with Derry.
Molloy admitted he’s looking forward to the challenge of helping Crusaders try to capture their first league title since 1997.
Molloy’s departure will come as a huge blow to Derry City as he’s still regarded as being one of the best midfielders in Ireland.
