A massive programme of sewerage works costing almost £1m will take place in Galliagh from January.
The £912,000 programme of work to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the estate will last for around six months.
The announcement has been welcomed by Cllr Angela Dobbins.
The project will involve the construction of two new pumping stations. Firstly, an upgrade will take place at the site of the existing Knockalla pumping station, at the end of the Fairview Road.
The pumping main, which takes sewage away from this pumping station will also be upgraded and a new pipeline will be installed from Galliagh Park to the new station.
The second scheme also involves the construction of a Pumping Station along the Upper Galliagh Road. The pumping main between this station and Templemore Mews will also be upgraded.
