THE SDLP and the DUP have joined forces to make sure the word ‘Derry’ has been removed from a plaque marking the re-opening of Derry’s Guildhall.
Unionists objected to a proposed plaque which would have read: ‘This Guildhall was re-opened on Thursday 30th May 2013 by the Mayor of Derry Councillor Kevin Campbell’.
However Cllr Drew Thompson asked for the word ‘Derry’ to be changed to ‘City’, saying it was a more neutral suggestion in a shared city.
The SDLP agreed.
Eleven SDLP councillors and four DUP councillors voted for the change while Sinn Féin’s nine councillors voted against it.
