Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin speaking following the Minister for Employment and Learning Stephen Farry meeting with the local strategy board in Derry.
During the meeting consultants presented key elements of the Magee University expansion business case to the strategy board and the Minister.
She told Derry Daily, “It was important that this meeting took place. The business plan evidences that the expansion of Magee will have a positive impact in Derry, across the North West and across the north as a whole.
“We identified the need for a full business case to be developed and lead on this issue.
“The fact that we now have it in place further enhances the inevitable expansion of the university if the political will is there.
“While conscious of the attack on the Executive budget by the Tory government in Westminster it will ultimately be the responsibility of the Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) to prioritise the expansion of Magee.
“The city in one voice has fulfilled what has been asked of us from DEL – a robust business case.
“It’s expected the business case will be formerly submitted to the department next week
