Derry City have transfer listed star striker Rory Patterson and defender Shane McEleney in an attempt to balance the books ahead of the forthcoming 2015.
It seems Derry’s financial woes are much worse than initially thought and the decision to transfer list Patterson and McEleney only reaffirms supporters fears that the club are cash-strapped.
Their failure to qualify for Europe was a hammer blow financially and that means Peter Hutton will have to make drastic alterations to his squad.
Contract negotiations with captain Barry Molloy stalled and that resulted in Molly signing for Irish League side Crusaders.
Derry did manage to hold on to Barry McNamee, but with Patterson and McEleney now expected to leave, these are worrying times for the club.
Michael Duffy has been linked to a move to Celtic FC, and Patrick McEleney has been linked with a whole host of other LOI clubs.
With Derry City’s financial crisis now known it could prompt other clubs to exploit their problems and get players on the cheap.
It seems Peter Hutton will have to turn to the club’s youth structures to unearth some news players for next season.
