IT’S the surprise Christmas marriage proposal to warm your heart.
An amazing proposal took place on the city walls as local man Matt Grant popped the question to his girlfriend Siobhan Gill with the help of 18 friends and family members.
The spectacular proposal took place in front of the Guildhall with Matt enlisting the help of 18 family and friends to each hold a handmade sign with its own letter spelling out ‘Will You Marry Me?’
As the couple walked through the Guildhall Square one of the crowd called Siobhan’s name from the walls and when she turned they held up their message.
When she turned her head around again Matt was on one knee with the ring in hand, and luckily for him she said yes!
Once Matt gave the cheering friends and family members the thumbs up they then turned their cards over to reveal ‘Congratulations!’ written on the back.
The proposal was nearly two weeks in the planning with Matt creating what he described as ‘the fellowship of the ring’ – a tight knit group of people which included his and Siobhan’s closest friends and family who he enlisted to help make it all happen – and to ensure Siobhan didn’t find out anything about it!
“I was an emotional wreck all week but it was a really amazing day and most importantly, she said yes!,” said Matt.
“I joked to Siobhan afterwards that I only proposed so she would buy me a PS4 for Christmas, well, I was half joking! I’d like to thank everyone for all their help in making this happen, it’s something that the two of us will never forget.”
