THE PSNI is reminding the public that 101 is the number to use for all non emergency situations.
Discussing the non-emergency number Chief Superintendent Alasdair Robinson said: “The 101 number was introduced in March of this year as a single point of contact.
“It is an easy to remember number that the public could use to report crime or receive advice in relation to non-emergency issues.
“People should continue to call 999 in an emergency, when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.
“Since the introduction of the number on the 24 March until 17 December we have received 469,661 calls to it.
“By making it clear when to dial 101 non-emergency and when to dial 999 we can ensure that real emergencies are dealt with appropriately resulting in a much more efficient and effective policing service.”
The 0845 600 8000 number will be de-activated from New Year’s Day, January 1, 2015.
