A HEAVY frost overnight has left many ice-bound roads and pathways in a very dangerous condition today.
Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to take extreme care when out and about this morning.
A severe ice warning remains in place until this afternoon.
Transport NI and the PSNI have warned motorists to take extreme care on untreated roads.
This applies to many footpaths and roads in and around Derry City.
We have reports of black ice in Creggan and Cornshell Fields this morning.
Roads are also dangerous on rural roads around Park, Claudy, Craigbane, Lettershandoney, Greysteel, Limavady and Ballykelly.
It will be this afternoon before temperatures rise again in the North West; the good news is that the cold snap will end later this evening.
New Atlantic weather fronts will bring milder air to Derry tomorrow.
Temperatures will rise to 7C on Tuesday and 11C on Wednesday and Thursday, with wind and rain being forecast for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
