A CITY councillor has warned that someone is going to be injured or killed – because so many parts of Derry are in darkness because there’s no money to fix broken street lights.
An astonishing 2,500 street lamps are broken in the city council area, said Cllr Tony Hassan.
“When I raised this with the DRD Roads Service they confirmed 2,500 road and street lights are currently out of order,” he said.
Minister Danny Kennedy says cuts to his budget are causing the problems.
However Cllr Hassan wants a policy review – saying there have already been a number of accidents at Northside Shopping Centre where lights are broken.
“We have to put the lives of pedestrians and motorists first,” he said.
