The Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle has ratified the pre-Christmas Stormon agreement as a step forward on a number of issues.
Speaking after the meeting Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD said: “After an informed discussion the Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle agreed to ratify the agreement reached as Stormont on the 23 December 2014.
“The Ard Chomhairle recognised that progress has been made in defending the most vulnerable against the Tory welfare and budget cuts.
“They also recognised that progress has been made with regard to the issues of flags, the past and parading.
“The Ard Chomhairle accepted that there was more to do at a community, political and national level to resolve these matters.
“The Ard Chomhairle remains concerned that the governments had failed to deliver on their outstanding commitments including a Bill of Rights, Acht na Gaeilge, and an inquiry into the killing of Pat Finucane and other outstanding matters.
“The recent talks demonstrated that with the five main parties acting together, significant progress can be made to safeguard the most vulnerable and to rebuild the reputation of the political institutions.
“It is equally clear that the two governments have failed to implement and safeguard the agreements. The British government refused to implement a number of outstanding commitments and the Irish Government representatives complied to this.
“Sinn Féin is committed to actively campaigning for the two governments to honour and deliver on their obligations.”
