THE Scottish nurse Pauline Cafferkey who is being treated for Ebola at a London hospital has her family roots in Co Donegal and is a cousin of Celtic and Ireland goalie Packie Bonner, it emerged today.
The nurse’s late grandmother was Annie Cafferkey (nee Sharkey) and she was a sister of Bonner’s mum Gracie making her second cousins of the former footballer.
The family has its roots in Kincasslagh in west Donegal.
Ms Cafferkey is being treated by a specialist team in London after contracting Ebola in Sierra Leone where she had volunteered for six weeks.
She felt unwell after returning from Africa at the weekend.
