SEVENTY employees of the First Source company have attended a union meeting in Derry today after several employees were suspended and several more threatened with suspension.
The meeting at the Unison offices in Clarendon Street was packed and heard grievances expressed by First Source employees.
A number of former employees attended to show their support for the workers.
It follows the suspension of several staff and threats of suspension to others.
“We are just out of a well supported meeting with some 70 workers from First Source,” said Derry Trades Union Council in a statement.
“There was quite a lot on the agenda with the main issues being suspensions, allegations of bullying and dismissals.
“The main unions Unite, Unison and the Independent Workers Union were involved in discussions and are dealing with these issues collectively including at least eight suspensions over the next week.
“The message from Derry Trades Council’s Liam Gallagher is that the workers must unionise. We will play our part and we have called an emergency council meeting to address these issues so we ask the workers to play their part and join a Union.”
No-one from First Source was available to comment today.
The company operates a call centre in the city with clients including Sky TV.
Earlier this week there were calls for a strike among staff – none of whom are members of a union.
