Social Development Minister, Mervyn Storey MLA, has announced an investment of £292,307 for Strand Road in Londonderry.
The investment will allow an upgrade of Public Realm works between Sackville Street and Great James Street and will see the installation of high quality granite paving, new and improved street and feature lighting, new granite benches, bins and planters and the resurfacing of the carriageway.
Minister Storey told Derry Daily: “This further investment illustrates my continued commitment to the regeneration of Londonderry City Centre.
” My Department, and civil engineering firm URS, have worked in partnership with local representatives to develop a scheme which will complement the significant Public Realm works already delivered in Waterloo Place and Guildhall Square.
Work at Strand Road is scheduled to start on 7 January 2015.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of March 2015.
The Minister continued: “The scheme, when complete, will transform this section of Strand Road, benefitting local businesses and shoppers, and will help to rejuvenate the local economy.
“As we begin 2015, this project will be a welcome early boost for Londonderry.
The proposed project area is approximately 1,200 square metres along a stretch of Strand Road that was last upgraded around 25 years ago.
