ANGRY workers at Firstsource have hit back at allegations they committed acts of fraud whilst working with the company.
Ninety workers have been suspended at the Derry call centre, although that number is expected to rise.
Derry Daily broke the story of the Firstsource row last week.
Today BBC Radio Foyle reported it has seen a letter sent by the company to one of the workers.
In it, he is accused of mis-selling products and fraud.
In a statement Firstsource said an investigation is under way.
The spokesperson said the firm was aware that a large number of people were affected in the Derry area and as a result it wished to conclude the internal investigation as quickly as possible.
Firstsource worker Daniel Laird told BBC Radio Foyle: “I was suspended on the 31st of December and I was pulled aside in front of other colleagues and advised to speak to HR.
“I raised issues with HR about how these issues came about. We were basically doing things we weren’t comfortable doing.
“There’s been no real investigation done but people have still been suspended.
“People are distraught and emotions are running high. People have children and questions need answered.
“Morale has been the lowest I’ve ever seen in a workplace.
“There is a constant pressure of having to do things you’re not happy with. They add different procedures and policies making it difficult for people to achieve their monthly bonuses.
“Workers are finding it difficult to manage their day to day work.
“I want management to re-consider these suspensions.”
Derry Daily understands that workers are insisting – as we reported at the weekend – that they were following orders at all times.
Client company Sky TV is said to be furious with the allegations and has demanded an investigation and an explanation.
However another worker – too afraid to be identified – said: “Everyone knows what went on here. There needs to be an outside investigation and I would ask that both unions and politicians be told what really went on.”
