Derry City striker Michael Duffy has returned to Glasgow for another trial period with Celtic FC, with sources close to both clubs admitting a move now looks ‘likely’.
Duffy enjoyed a fantastic season last year and scored sixteen goals in all competitions for Peter Hutton’s side.
Duffy was a revelation for Derry in what was difficult season for the club.
Defeat in the FAI Ford Cup Final and failure to qualify for Europe meant it was a disappointing season for the Candystripes.
A whole host of senior players have departed the club in the wake of that FAI Cup Final defeat, with captain Barry Molloy signing for Crusaders being the most notable departure.
Duffy’s loss to Celtic would be significant blow to Peter Hutton plans for next season.
However with Derry’s current financial problems well documented a transfer fee for Duffy would be welcomed.
Duffy impressed Celtic manager Ronnie Delia in his last trial before Christmas and it’s expected if he performs well again this week that Celtic will make Derry an offer for the exciting prospect.
Sources close to both clubs says the transfer now looks inevitable.
It would be a dream move for lifelong Celtic fan Duffy if he were to secure a move to Parkhead.
