MORALE among staff at call centre company Firstsource is at ‘rock bottom’ according to many of them who have contacted Derry Daily.
However a union-supported Facebook page – which had almost 3,500 followers by last night – says any job losses as a result of the debacle will rest solely with the company.
The Support The Firstsource Employees Page has been banned by the company at its sites in Derry and Belfast. Staff have been warned about making any comments to the media or on social media.
The page – back by the Derry Trades Union Council – issued a statement early this morning after criticism from some people online.
“For the purpose of anyone that’s confused to why this page was set up. There has been mass suspensions of the working class in our city,” it read.
“These suspensions were highlighted to the trade unions and the unions do what they do,they stand up for Workers Rights,Simple as.
“This page is in support of All the suspended employees and for All their colleagues within the company. We do not know what the outcome will be or if sky will rethink on how and who they will do business with after these suspensions have been dealt with.
“If First Source cease to operate in Derry the blame will lay firmly at their door. Be assured the suspended Workers will be represented throughout. For the minority of you that are defending this company Remember these Workers have Rights and should not be prejudge by anyone.”
A further meeting with staff takes place in the Unison building in Clarendon Street this evening.
A large number of staff members told Derry Daily last night that morale inside Firstsource was at extremely low.
“It’s at rock bottom in there now,” said one employee.
“There’a almost a daze about the place. It’s hard to lift yourself when all you want to do is your job and be treated properly when doing it.
“I’ve seen some of the comments on social media defending Firstsource. They are a very small majority of the people in here.”
