Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has expressed her condolences to the victims of the gun attack at the office of the Paris satirical newspaper, Charlie Hedbo.
Ms Anderson said: “Like millions of others across the world I was shocked and appalled by the scenes from the attack on the Charlie Hedbo office in Paris.
“The scale of the attack and loss of life has shocked everyone and my sympathies go out to the relatives and friends of all those who were killed.
“The impact of the attack is still unfolding today with reports of further shootings.
“This is clearly an attack on democracy and the freedom of the press and must be condemned.
“Freedom of expression and thoughts are indestructible rights and we will continue to promote these rights in the European Parliament.
“I would hope in the days ahead there will be a calm and measured response to this tragedy which does not inflame tensions or lead to further violence.”
