MOTORISTS are being urged to drive with caution later this morning as tonight’s storm has thrown debris onto many roads in the North West.
A wind measuring 68 knots – just shy of 80mph – was recorded by Met Eireann at Malin Head at midnight.
The storm is set to continue until just after dawn before subsiding, but it will remain a very blustery day in the North West.
The Foyle Bridge was closed earlier to high sided vehicles with a 30mph speed limit for other vehicles.
Temperatures will actually rise later today to 13C.
But more wintry weather is on the way for Saturday with the UK Met Office issuing a snow and ice alert for Derry.
The worst of this morning’s storm is hitting Scotland where winds of 100mph are expected.
Schools have been closed and travel restrictions are in place due to the storm.
