Derry City striker Michael Duffy scored two goals for the Celtic U21 development side against Newcastle United in a friendly earlier this afternoon.
Derry Daily reported earlier in the week that both clubs were close to agreeing a fee for the talented striker.
Duffy now looks like he’s ensured he will earn himself a contract at the Scottish giants after netting a brace against Newcastle United.
Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul star of Holland’s World Cup quarter-final penalty shoot-out victory over Costa Rica in the summer was in goals for Newcastle.
But he could do nothing to stop both of Duffy’s efforts as Celtic ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.
This is Duffy’s second stint on trial at Celtic and it’s expected he will join the club before the January transfer window closes.
Life-long Celtic fan Duffy is expected to return to Derry this weekend and will be anxious that both parties negotiate terms quickly in order to cement his dream deal with his boyhood heroes.
