Cllr Angela Dobbins.

SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins has welcomed the new shopping development at Ballnynagard in Culmore.

This landmark development will provide a much needed and state of the art shopping experience for the Culmore area and beyond.

“Local people are keen to see which premises would be opening on the site.  There are plans for a Spar supermarket to be the anchor trader,” said Cllr Dobbins.

“Other proposed tenants include a pizza and hot food takeaway, hairdressers, a dentist and an IT firm.

“There is already at the Magnet complex a pharmacy, off licence, post office and a Centra Store and employ local people and are supported by the community.

“The new supermarket will accommodate the wider area from the bridge to Muff and I’m sure it will prove to be convenient for people in the wider region and hopefully, along with the other businesses, bring more local employment to the area.

“I would also hope that residents are kept abreast of developments on the site and be consulted with the plans in the weeks ahead.

“This development follows years of campaigning for more resources for the Culmore village and wider area.”
