Social Development Minister, Mervyn Storey MLA, has announced an investment of £314,000 to upgrade a busy Derry road.
The junction of the Craigavon Bridge, and along the Foyle Road, will see work which will include making the junction more pedestrian friendly and improving the lighting.
Announcing the funding, Minister Storey said: “The junction at the Craigavon Bridge and Foyle Road is an important arterial route and a gateway to both the City Centre and the Waterside. However, it is visually unattractive, difficult to negotiate for pedestrians and cyclists and in need of repair.
“These works will make the area more user-friendly, particularly for all those who use the Riverside Walkway, by linking Queens Quay more effectively with the stretch along the Foyle Road. This work will build on the projects already completed by my Department in partnership with the Department for Regional Development, including the upgrade of the Lone Moor Road, Lecky Road Flyover and Rossville Street.
“These works are in line with my Department’s continued commitment to the Foyle Valley Gateway Masterplan and to the achievement of the One Plan objectives for the City.”
Commenting on the planned works, Transport Minister, Danny Kennedy added: “These schemes are indicative of our Departments’ on-going commitment to maintain and upgrade the road infrastructure in the Londonderry area, as we continue to contribute to the economic and social development of the region.”
