INSTITUTE left their disappointing league form behind to hit Loughgall for five in a superb performance at Drumahoe today.
But for a while it looked as if the Co Armagh side were at Riverside to cause an upset.
Stephen Ferguson put the visitors ahead after 12 minutes and fears began to creep around the stadium that ‘Stute’s poor run of form – and bad luck -was going to continue.
But the home team upped their game and dominated possession before Darren McFadden tied the game at 1-1 in the 24th minute.
And when ‘Stute came out for the second half, they deservedly took the lead through Stephen Curry.
Loughgall tried their best but there was a gulf in class in the second half as the Institute midfield took control.
Duwayne McManus hit two in five minutes, the second from the penalty spot in the 59th minute before Aaron Walsh completed an excellent 5-1 victory in the 73rd minute.
The visitors’ had a player sent off – leaving the home side to coast home in the last 15 minutes.
All thoughts however will be with Larne’s Scott Irvine who collided with a wall during his side’s Cup clash with Carrick Rangers. The game – which was in the 28th minute – was abandoned.
