STORM RACHEL has hit the North West, bringing down trees, adding to the floods on our roads – and cutting power to homes.
Winds have intensified in the past hour and lashing rain has added to difficulties on our roads.
The River Faughan has burst its banks at several locations, sending water flooding into fields and at one point, onto the Glenshane Road.
Howling gales have reached 70 miles per hour – and could get worse later into this morning.
Forecasters had predicted the winds would abate around 8am; but now admit they won’t abate by much until later in the day.
There are reports of power cuts in several parts of County Derry.
