Derry City striker Michael Duffy is edging closer to a dream move to Celtic FC according to sources close to both clubs.
Duffy scored twice for Celtic’s U21 development side in a 3-1 friendly win over Newcastle United.
Dutch World Cup star Tim Krul was in goals for Newcastle but could do nothing to stop Duffy’s efforts which were expertly dispatched.
Sources close to both clubs believe a deal will be agreed before the end of the January transfer window.
Duffy was Derry’s outstanding player last season and netted sixteen goals and established himself as one of the best young talents in the league.
With Rory Patterson already leaving Derry City and with Duffy’s departure imminent, fans aren’t optimistic for the season ahead.
The only consolation for Derry City is that they can command a fee for the talented striker.
With Derry’s financial woes well-known, a transfer fee for Duffy would be welcomed by Derry’s board ahead of the new season which kicks-off in March.
If the move does materialize then Duffy will follow in the footsteps of former Derry City players Niall McGinn and Paddy McCourt.
