Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle has said disruption to water supplies is having a particularly adverse impact on rural areas.
The water supply to hundreds of homes in Counties Derry and Tyrone has been cut due to industrial action.
Water stations are operating in Dungiven, Park and Claudy and the Aghyaran and Castlederg areas were badly disrupted Mrs Boyle said.
“Hundreds of homes in the Aghyaran and Castlederg areas have been left without a water supply for several days now,” she said
“I have been in continuous contact with NI Water to ensure residents were kept up to date with the latest information and have asked them to install a static water tank to service those affected until their supply is back up and running as normal.
“I have also been in contact with the DRD minister Danny Kennedy urging him to come up with a speedy solution to the current dispute to ensure that people living in rural communities are not further isolated as a result of the disruption to supply.”
Local councillor Kieran McGuire said: “Given the inclement weather conditions and the fact that many of the rural roads were blocked with snow we arranged to get a temporary water supply brought in.
“Along with local volunteers we brought bottled water to dozens of vulnerable people who were effectively trapped in their homes.
“We went to the doors of pensioners, people with restricted mobility and other medical conditions to deliver water.”
