A Co Donegal punter who scooped a whopping €17,000 (£15,000) on a tiny €5 (£4) bet has come forward to collect his winnings.

The punter predicted the outcome of 11 soccer games to scoop the cash at the Letterkenny branch of Ladbrokes last Saturday.

The man came forward with his winning slip today and had the cash transferred to his account by bank transfer.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes said they were delighted for the winner.

“It’s the biggest single bet we have paid out on a football bet for such a small stake.

“He’s a regular customer and we’re delighted for him.”

However, despite the windfall, they said the lucky winner preferred to remain anonymous.

The 11 winning teams were Crystal Palace, Southampton, Tottenham, Chelsea, Brentford, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Doncaster, Gillingham, Milton Keynes and Port Vale.
