Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has called on the health minister to use additional money from the January monitoring round to save the children’s respite facility, The Cottages.
The chair of the Assembly’s health committee said: “Plans to reduce services at The Cottages have caused considerable concern in Derry, particularly among parents of children who use this respite facility.
“I welcome the fact the health minister has now instructed the Western Health and Social Care Trust to halt the proposals until he meets with Trust staff.
“In the January monitoring round, the health department has been allocated an additional £10M to ease the pressure on Trusts and I am calling on the health minister to use this money to save The Cottages.
“Exactly how this money will be spent will be discussed at the health committee but I will be making the case that it should be used to keep this much-needed facility open.”
