SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood has been told by Transport NI that traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Bradley’s Pass and Glengalliagh Road.
In recent years increased volumes of traffic on the route and frequent accidents have caused mounting concern for local residents.
The completion of a new housing development at Racecourse Drive has led to even greater congestion at the junction.
SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood yesterday received confirmation from Transport NI that traffic lights are to be installed at the junction by the end of March.
“The dangers at this busy junction and the delays experienced by drivers are well known to those who use the route. There have been countless accidents at the site over the years and collisions have become all too frequent in recent times.
“My office has received a large number of complaints regarding driver and pedestrian safety at the junction. This commitment from Transport NI follows recent meetings we held on site and will come as a welcome relief to local residents and road users.”
SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins added: “This is very welcome news as the junction is becoming ever-more dangerous, especially following the opening of the new Racecourse housing development. I recently met with Transport NI at the junction to fully explain the issues experienced during rush hour traffic and I’m glad that the problem is going to be addressed with the provision of traffic lights.”
