A special double issue of arts magazine, The Irish Review, is to include features, poetry, reflections and essays in honour of Seamus Heaney.
It will also mark the 50th edition of the journal.
Included in the issue are a number of contributions drawn from the four-day Seamus Heaney: A Conference and Commemoration organised by the Heaney Centre in April last year.
Together with Cork University Press and the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, the special edition of the publication will be marked at a launch at the McMordie Hall, Music Building, Queen’s University, on Thursday February 12th.
Professor Edna Longley, one of the founders and former editors of the magazine will reflect on the issue and its significance since it first began in 1986.
Work is set to begin on the £4m Seamus Heaney Centre in Bellaghy this year. It is being developed by Magherafelt District Council with the support of the Heaney family, and is expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors each year when it opens in 2016.
More than 2,000 books and reference materials from the personal library of the late poet, Seamus Heaney, will create a haven for literature and the arts in a new visitor centre to celebrate the life and work of the late Nobel Laureate.
