Sinn Fein Cllr Jay McCauley has said the closure of Xtra-Vision in Strabane is a depressing blow for the Town Centre.

Mc Cauley said, “When Xtra Vision went into receivership in April 2013, the Strabane store was spared closure, while 20 other stores across Ireland were closed, and this offered some hope that it could survive.

“However, given the ever increasing number and variety of online streaming options available, the ‘hard copy’ rental model has been completely undermined

This is devastating for the 5 staff who now face redundancy this week as they and their families try and pick up the pieces and as they face into an uncertain future.

“It is also depressing news for the town centre which has been experiencing some stabilization in terms of retail tenancy and even some slight improvement in terms of trade.
