THE pervert Derry husband of a one time top charity boss who preyed on young girls for nearly two decades has been caged for six years.
Shamed former Bogside resident Tom O’Bryan was found guilty by a jury last week of a string of sexual assaults on his victims dating back to 1993.
He is married to Carol O’Bryan, the one-time chief executive of the homeless charity, the Simon Community.
She supported him throughout his trial, sitting in the public gallery watching the crown court proceedings.
None of his offences are in any way linked to the charity she once run.
Passing sentence at Downpatrick Crown Court, Judge Piers Grant told O’Bryan: “At no stage have you shown any remorse for your actions.”
Judge Grant also praised the bravery of his victims who had to give evidence several times during the course of the trial, causing them untold distress.
Sending him to jail for six years, disgraced Tom O’Bryan was then taken away in handcuffs by prison warders, with his head bowed and shame written all over his face for his crimes against young girls.
The jury found him guilty of 12 charges, including ten of indecently assaulting a female child and two of an adult having sexual activity with a child.
The offences took place between December 1993 and December 2012.
O’Bryan, whose address was given in court as Tennyson Avenue, Bangor, was hauled away in a prison van to start his sentence in Maghaberry prison.
A source said: “He has left his victims devastated. He put them through hell throughout this trial for having give evidence.
“He is a creep and a pervert. Jail is too good for him.”
