IN a week where their incredible service was unfortunately needed again, the hard work of the Foyle Search and Rescue teams has been recognised with government funding.
The organisation has been awarded a £25,000 grant by the Department of Transport through its Inshore and Inland Lifeboat Scheme.
“With this money we will be investing in a full flood/inland water emergency response kit that includes a new portable lightweight boat along with a number of inflatable rafts and personal protection equipment,” said a spokeswoman.
“This additional equipment will increase our service offering, enabling us to respond to more inland water rescue and flooding incidents outside of our normal operating area without affecting the service we provide in and around the River Foyle.
“It will help us provide additional support to statutory services at every stage of emergency planning, response and recovery at local and regional level.”
