SDLP Derry City Councillor Brian Tierney has condemned an attempted mobile shop robbery in Carnhill as an “attack on the community”.
Attackers armed with an iron bar demanded money from staff at the shop on Monday night before causing damage and making off empty handed.
Colr Tierney said: “Our local shops are central to the community and violent acts such as this are attacks on the entire community.
“The staff, often young people, are subjected to severe traumatic stresses as a result of terrifying ordeals such as this.
“The thugs behind this most recent incident in Carnhill are menaces to society and must be brought before the courts to bear the full brunt of the law.
“It is vital that anyone with information on who carried out this violent attempted robbery passes it on to the police to help enhance community safety.”
