A Co Donegal cinema has now denied it has slapped a ban on the showing of steamy film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’
Instead Cinema Inishowen in Buncrana say the reason for the no-show is because they cannot show it enough times!
Chairman of the voluntary cinema, Adam Rory Porter, said he does not know where the claims that they banned the film came from.
He said the real reason why they are not showing the film is because they did not meet the film distributor’s requirements.
“We actually approached the distributor with a view to getting the film screened because we thought it will have huge appeal.
“But we were tuned down because we did not fit their criteria.
“They wanted us to show the film four times a day which we simply cannot do.
“We are a small, non-profit cinema who only show one film a day in the evening time and a matinee on a Sunday.
“There was no way we could show this film four times a day,” he said.
St Mary’s Hall where the cinema is based belongs to the Diocese of Derry.
But Mr Porter denied that this would have any influence over whether or not to show a film.
“All films have a rating on them and we stick by that rating. To be honest we rarely get the new big releases because the distributor want us to show them four times a day which we simply can’t do.
“I honestly don’t know where all this has come from because nobody I have spoken to said there was a ban at the cinema,” he said.
