ohearaSINN Féin Westminster Candidate, Gearóid Ó hEára has described a meeting with InvestNI (INI) hosted by Derry Sinn Féin as very positive and constructive.

Mr Ó hEára said today: “Derry Sinn Féin held a very positive and constructive meeting in the City this morning with INI Chief Executive, Alastair Hamilton to discuss future investment in the North West.

“Those attending the meeting included the Chamber of Commerce, Ilex, Magee University, Derry City Council and representatives of the business community.

“I believe that this meeting given the fact that we are approaching the official establishment of the new expanded Councils was very timely. It allowed us to outline the strategic vision and economic regeneration strategy that we are proposing for the City and District.

“We discussed the development of the community plan as well as how this could link into the proposed INI corporate plan and how best to enshrine sub-regional clusters as corporate policy within INI to ensure targeted economic investment.

“We impressed on Mr Hamilton the importance of this approach if the region is to be in the position to positively and pro-actively focus on developing areas of key skills such as the Digital and Creative industry, life sciences, tourism and other economic drivers.

“I am pleased to say that our proposals were positively received by Alastair Hamilton and I look forward to working with him in the future in identifying job creation opportunities in this region, particularly for our young people.”
