THE death of Martin McCrossan yesterday has left Derry in a state of shock.
But for those of us who knew him, that’s the last thing Martin would want. He’d want you to have a smile on your face.
Martin did so much for Derry – he was a salesman for the city, for the county, for Donegal and the North West.
He was passionate about saving our historic city centre from decline; the only thing which seemed to get him down was another shutter coming down on another city centre building.
But even then, he’d smile through it.
There are people in a 100 countries worldwide who have met Mr Derry and left our city happier and wiser for it.
Mayor Brenda Stevenson deserves praise for opening a book of condolences at the Guildhall.
It is open this weekend.
Please take the opportunity to go along and sign it – and say a final ‘thank you’ to Martin.
And do it with a smile.
