Former Armagh and Crossmaglen star, Oisín McConville, will headline a seminar on mental health and addictions later this month in an event to formally launch Derry’s new Health and Wellbeing committee.
Chairman of the new body, Michael Crilly, is keen to see all clubs in the county take the opportunity to come along to hear about the work they propose to do:
He told Derry Daily, “We’re delighted that Oisín has agreed to speak at the event. He has a fascinating and inspirational story to tell and it’s something we can all learn from,” said the Lavey clubman
“The seminar is open to all GAA members in the county, and indeed interested members of the general public.”
Other speakers at the event to be held on Thursday, February 19th at Owenbeg (7.30pm) include Director of the White Oaks Rehabilitation centre, Stephen McLaughlin and Michael Lynch, managing director of Men’s Action Network based in Derry.
The introduction of Health and Wellbeing committees into the GAA’s structures was adopted at Annual Congress in Derry in 2013 following a motion from Tyrone GAA.
