Derry City’s pre-season preparations have been dealt a blow following the news Barry McNamee will be out for a couple of weeks.
The influential midfielder picked up an ankle injury during Tuesday night’s 3-0 friendly victory over the Northern Ireland International Junior side.
McNamee’s injury isn’t thought to be too serious but the medical staff have advised Peter Hutton that he is unavailable for the next few weeks.
McNamee will miss their match against the North-West Saturday Morning select side, Institute (Tuesday) and Finn Harps next Saturday.
McNamee looked like he was heading towards the exit door in the off-season after being left out of the starting XI in the FAI Cup final.
His trial at Fleetwood Town was cut short due to injury, but St Patrick’s Athletic were looming.
However, McNamee penned a two-year deal much to the delight of the Derry City faithful.
