UNION officials say Firstsource has fired one worker who refused union help but the company has been forced to reinstate another worker after union intervention.
Tom King of the Independent Workers Union said one Team Leader (TL) was given a six months warning even though that person was not on suspension.
“Another TL has been dismissed in relation to the investigation at First Source. Both TL’s were offered union representation at their disciplinary hearings but declined even though they were strongly advised to avail of the service,” said King.
“We are in no doubt that there would of been a completely different outcome if both Team Leaders were represented as all other staff who were represented were reinstated with a clean slate.
“The trade unions can only do so much and have done their best throughout this situation. All First Source TL’s and agents will be attending a 15 hour training course on “Selling Products”over the coming weeks.
“Perhaps if proper training was done in the first place then this unfortunate situation would not have happened. That’s a lesson learnt hopefully by the management of First Source and the second lesson is for the employees….. Join a union and take union advice,” he added.
The Independent Workers Union says it recently represented a Firstsource worker who was dismissed.
“We have received confirmation from the appeal hearing that the individual was wrongfully dismissed and has now been reinstated. This appeal was not part of the FS investigation process,” added King
