Social Development Minister, Mervyn Storey MLA, has announced funding of £75,000 for a public realm scheme in the Limavady Road area of Londonderry.
The project will include upgrades to paving and street lighting from the junction at Glendermott Road to the entrance at Foyle Fold residential accommodation.
Welcoming the beginning of the works, Minister Storey said: “Limavady Road is an important arterial route into Londonderry and, since the opening of the Peace Bridge, the Ebrington site and the development of the Waterside Greenway, has seen a significant increase in pedestrian footfall.
“This Public Realm enhancement scheme will complement my Department’s earlier investments in the Public Realm at Clooney Terrace, Spencer Road, Duke Street and Dorman’s Wharf.”
The project will be delivered by Transport NI and works began over the weekend. The work will take approximately three weeks to complete.
DRD Minister Danny Kennedy said: “These works will help deliver significant improvements to the infrastructure of the Waterside area and will provide a high quality pedestrian link to both Ebrington and the Peace Bridge.”
