A Derry man accused of having a grenade and being trained in weapons and explosives in Syria is to be released on bail.
A High Court judge has ruled that Eamon Bradley, 25, of Melmore Gardens in the city, is now a suitable candiate to freed on bail.
Bradley was arrested in November amid claims he took part in battles against IS and President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Defence lawyers described him as a “dreamer” who posed no public danger.
As part of his bail conditions, he must live with his grandmother and cannot use the internet or mobile phones.
Mr Bradley is accused of having a grenade with intent to endanger life in Syria and attending a weapons and explosives training camp in the country.
A defence barrister said: “He’s clearly not a danger to anyone. He appears to have been a dreamer, someone not particularly realistic.”
He added: “The added element in this is there’s been a touch of media… I wouldn’t say hysteria, but frivolity around this young man.”
Granting bail, the judge said the authorities have been given time to carry out their investigations.
As well as banning any internet or mobile phone use, the judge said that two family members must act as sureties for him.
If Bradley breaches his bail conditions, the two members of his family will lose their cash sureties and he would be thrown back in Maghaberry jail
