SDLP Derry City Councillor Martin Reilly has said today’s security alerts in the Waterside have caused ‘deep upset and annoyance’ – particularly for elderly residents in the area.
Speaking from the police cordon at Jeffrey Avenue today, he said: “These security alerts have created significant disruption for many residents of the Waterside.
“In the Jeffrey Avenue / Brigade area many residents are elderly and frail – some of whom have needed access to a doctor or hospital appointments.
“This unwanted disruption has caused deep upset and annoyance for themselves and their wider family circle.
“Hopefully, the PSNI and the army bomb experts will be able to deal with the devices at both locations and the cordons can be lifted before too long.”
