A 12-year-old girl has died in road accident in County Derry.
The victim – from Redcastle in County Donegal – was in a car which collided with another vehicle at the Tamnaherin Road turn-off from the main Derry to Belfast Road.
The girl’s older sister has been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where she is in a critical condition.
The victim was from Clar, between Redcastle and Moville and was a popular pupil at Moville Community College.
Police carried out a full forensic examination of the scene. The road was re-opened at 1am.
The crashed happened just after 5.40pm last night at the junction which is the main turn-off for traffic going to Lettershandoney and Eglinton.
Traffic is being diverted along the Tirbracken Road. This is leading to long delays.
The PSNI says there had been heavy rain all day – with surface water causing difficult driving conditions across the North West.
