A MOTHER was forced to flee her home in Derry last night after burglars attempted to break into her home in the latest incident involving low-life criminals.
The mum and her four-year-old daughter decided to spend the night with relatives – because there weren’t enough police officers to attend the scene.
“The kitchen window and my daughter’s bedroom window were smashed. It was lucky she wasn’t in her bed as her bed is under the window,” said the terrified mother.
“The police were called at 9.15pm and we called back again at 10.15pm and they said they would come when they could as I wasn’t in any immediate danger.”
When the PSNI failed to show, she left with her child – too afraid to stay.
A watchful neighbour had prevented the break-in.
“We don’t feel safe. Thank God my neighbour caught them on time,” said the mother.
She said she was angry that police couldn’t call when she was frightened.
Police resources in the city have been slashed.
