A DERRY man goes on trial today accused of murdering Barry McCrory in the city over a year ago.
Kieran Edward Joseph McLaughlin, 60, whose address now is C/O Maghaberry prison, is accused of shooting dead Mr McCrory at his flat in Shipquay Street on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
McLaughlin will be further accused at Belfast Crown Court of:
* that on dates between October 9, 2013 and October 17, 2013 had in his possession firearms and ammunition, namely a ”sawn off”, 12 bore, double barrelled, breech loading, side by side shotgun, marked ”F Williams London and Birmingham”, a Mauser model 1910, 6.35 x 16mm SR (.25”ACP) calibre self loading pistol and magazine, seven 12 bore shotgun cartridges marked ”GB, Super Express” and one 12 bore shotgun cartridge marked ”Eley”, with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property or to enable another person to endanger life or cause serious damage to property. contrary to Article 58(1) of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004;
* that on dates between the 9th day of October 2013 and the 17th day of October 2013, had in his possession firearms and ammunition, namely a ”sawn off”, 12 bore, double barrelled, breech loading, side by side shotgun, marked ”F Williams London and Birmingham”, a Mauser model 1910, 6.35 x 16mm SR (.25”ACP) calibre self loading pistol and magazine, seven 12 bore shotgun cartridges marked ”GB, Super Express” and one 12 bore shotgun cartridge marked ”Eley”, in suspicious circumstances. contrary to Article 64(1) of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004;
* that on the 16th day of October 2013 had in his possession an imitation firearm, namely a Denix imitation ”Walther P38” pistol, with intent by that means to cause another person to believe that unlawful violence would be used against him/her or another person. contrary to Article 58(2) of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004;
* that on the 16th day of October 2013, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, had with him in a public place, namely a Denix imitation ”Walther P38” pistol, an imitation firearm. contrary to Article 61(1)(d) of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004.
The trial, due to be heard before a High Court judge, is expected to last several weeks.
