THERE is a great deal of sadness in Derry, Donegal and the entire North West today following the death of legendary Journal photographer Larry Doherty.
Larry began his career with the newspaper in 1945 and for the next 50 years – and beyond his 1995 retirement – he chronicled the lives of people across Derry, County Derry, Tyrone and Donegal.
During some of our darkest days – including the horror of Bloody Sunday – Larry was there to make sure it was recorded for truth and history.
And he was also there for the happier times in the North West for half a century.
His son Lorcan followed in his footsteps, also becoming Chief Photographer for the Journal.
Larry’s remains will leave his home at 12 Belmont Crescent at 9.30am for 10.00am Requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn on Friday.
He will be laid to rest in the City Cemetery immediately afterwards.
We offer our deepest sympathy to the Doherty family and their wide circle of friends.
