UPDATED: PSNI officials have announced that the Strand Road in Derry has now re-opened following the horror blaze which gutted the hugely popular Chinese restaurant Mandarin Palace.
Traffic restrictions have been lifted and the Quay has also re-opened to the public so the flow of traffic in and around the area should return to normal.
130 fire fighters tackled the blaze which broke out early yesterday afternoon, it took them until close to midnight last night to finally get the fire under control.
The owners of Mandarin Palace have been left devastated by the fire which has completely destroyed their business.
A full investigation has been launched and the premises is currently be surveyed by experts to determine the exact cause of the fire.
It’s believed that the fire may have broken out in a duct leading to the kitchen area of the restaurant.
Social media outlets went into meltdown yesterday and hundreds of customers who regularly frequented the restaurant have offered the owners messages of support.
Residents of nearby apartments are spent the night with friends and relatives.
The Brooke Park Community Centre was offered to those who didn’t have alternative accommodation.
