Victor Nicholl who died in a quarry accident on Friday evening

POLICE have named the man who tragically died in an industrial accident in Co Derry.

He was Victor Nicholl from the Kilrea area.

His death is now being investigated by the PSNI and the Health and Safety Executive NI.

The 62-year-old was working at FP McCann’s quarry at Drumard Road close to the village of Gulladuff when the accident happened on Friday.

It is understood Mr Nicholl had been driving a 60 tonne dumper truck shortly before the accident.

Local peopled described him as a “hard working man” who had been with the company for almost 20 years.

Mr Nicholl was married and came from the Fallahogy district.

SDLP Councillor Martin Kearney said: “He was a popular man who was very highly respected in the community.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, work mates and employer.”
