SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has praised the ‘extraordinary’ artwork of David Best and the ‘Legenderry hands’ of more than one hundred individuals from across the city who have been working on the burning Temple project. Mr Durkan, who visited the Waterside site of the burning Temple at the weekend, said: “I was not only really impressed but ‘totally amazed’ on my visit to the burning Temple site. “David Best must be commended for his extraordinary artwork – as well as the many ‘Legenderry hands’ who should now have a ‘burning pride’ in helping to construct it. “It is clear that David may be here as a visiting artist but will be an enthusiastic ambassador for the city in his future travels. “I am also delighted that volunteers from both sides of the community have been involved in this very worthwhile project. “Artichoke, who produced the memorable Lumiere festival in 2013, are to be especially commended for returning to the city with this special piece. This is a positive example of a 2013 legacy. “This dynamic art project also carries its own legacy currents with symbolism of unencumberment but also of remembrance.”
