THE PSNI has been involved in a number of searches in Derry in the past few hours as part of an investigation into dissident activity.
Police supported by helicopter cops spent the evening searching a number of homes and cars.
A house in the Ballymagowan area of the Creggan was among premises searched.
There was also a large police presence in William Street earlier.
It’s understood the operation across the city follows an investigation by undercover detectives.
Police are remaining tight-lipped about the extent of the investigation but local people say more than 20 police vehicles are involved in the late night operation.
There have been reports of arrests being made earlier near the city centre but so far there have been no arrests in Creggan.
However one street has been sealed off and a large forensic team is going through one home.
